Mum’s Chicken Soup (Haiku)
By Nyla
Smells like the whole world
Pink, comfy, amazing bed
Sounds like loud music
A note from facilitator Sally Wood:
I’m so excited to be back at Baytree working with a new group of young writers – and some familiar faces it is great to see return!
We dove straight into poetic forms and have been writing haikus, rhyming couplets and kennings (Viking poetry!). At the halfway point, it’s a joy to reflect back on the work so far before we look ahead. I’ve been typing up some of the poems from this term and I can already start to see distinctive styles and tones which is very exciting!
For the next half of term we will be looking at slightly longer form poetry and getting on to the editing and performance part of the programme. I’ve loved working with Courtney again this term – who will be returning for a performing masterclass! – and I’m excited to be working with Laila for this second half of term and all that she brings.
Van Gogh’s Sunflowers
By Destiny
Sunflowers are yellow and bright
But sometimes green inside
But if you dig there’s something you can find.
