Strandliners CIC based in Rye facilitated an online screening of “The Story of Plastic” from Story of Stuff.
“It’s a shocking watch, but defintely rams home the point that the solution lies NOT in fooling ourselves about recycling but stopping the production of plastic and all downstream by products of oil and gas definitively, as well as major investment in recycling technology to render these products unharmful to our planet and all species.”
This film raises awareness that whilst individuals should still do what they can, and work to reduce and reuse – to lessen the consumer demand for plastic. It is the large (predominantly oil) corporations sending it out to us deeming it is our reliance that need to be stopped for the safety of the planet. We need awareness, but we also need legislation and action.
We also went to see the Waste Age exhibition at the Design Museum which felt like a physical companion piece to the film. The exhibition ended on the 20th Feb but there is a short films and images still available on their website. There is also a case study about how the museum are trying to cut the environmental costs of their exhibitions here
